In this short tutorial, you will learn how to set Bryce's Preferences to the way you like it to appear.
| Have you ever wished that Bryce didn't start with the view from the director camera? How about wishing it started with a different sky? Take a moment and set Bryce's working window to the way YOU want it! | |
| First set up a scene the way that you wish Bryce would start. For instance, I do a lot of modeling in Bryce using the primitives. I don't like the default 480 x 360 default window size. To make it easier to see the model, I found myself always changing that to 640 x 480. | ![]() |
| I was always stopping the wireframe from casting shadows. | ![]() |
| ...and I was repeatedly making the wireframe visible below the horizon. | ![]() |
| Finally, I set Bryce's
Preferences to do all this for me each time it started. It's really easy to do! Go to "Edit" |
![]() |
| When the popup window appears,
simply check "Launch to previous state."
Now Bryce will launch each time to the display settings previously set up. |

| Ok, so now Bryce opens with the display settings the way you want. Do you find yourself repeatedly setting up the same thing over and over? For instance, I repeatedly was deleting the ground plane, then changing the sky to black, removing all haze and fog, disabling the sunlight, and finally adding radial lights to light the model I was currently working on. | |
| So once you set up the scene the way you want...i.e. different sky, different objects, even a different camera view...save this file as "Default". This file must be saved in Bryce's parent directory. The next time you open Bryce, it will automatically open this file and everything will be exactly the way you want it to be! | ![]() |
| Bryce doesn't open to the previous settings, even though I checked "Launch to previous state" | Be sure you
checked "Launch to previous state"
|
| Bryce doesn't open my default file when I set it up. | This file must be in the parent directory of Bryce. In other words, in the same location as the Bryce program file. To be sure that this is where it is saved, once you create your file and choose "Save", Bryce defaults to it's parent directory...just click ok and you will have saved it in the correct place on your computer. |
| My default Bryce file changed...Why? | Remember that you must save the file that Bryce defaults to with a different name when you create a new scene. If you click "Save", then Bryce will over write the default file. Be sure to choose "Save As" instead and give it a new name. |
| How come I have to click
something to see the wireframe? Why does my screen open with a white background? |
If you did a preview render of
your scene, Bryce will have saved an image file by the same name. You will need to
delete this file. For windows user, it will be called "Default.bmp".
Browse to Bryce's parent directory and delete this file. Remember, you are
deleting "Default.bmp", not some other file!!! If you can't see the extension, then go to the top of the window and choose (for Win98, Win95 will be similar):
Or Look for one of these icons, this indicates an image file which is what you are looking for.
