Brycetech: Bryce on the Mat Part 9
ABC's of Bryce

Well heck, if you can do that with two channels, why not 3?  The answer is, yep..you can!  However, in the ABC mode, Bryce blends its material pudding in a different bucket.

You can't do this with 4 channels.

Do this by holding the Ctrl button and click the third component channel. Also remember that this ABC method can be used in any of the other components: Ambient, Specular, etc.

In this mode, the A and B textures are blended based on the alpha channel in texture C.  White areas in the alpha channel of texture C indicate that is where to apply the texture values from A; Black areas indicate where to apply the value from B.

THIS IS REVERSED WITH PICTURE TEXTURES!!!

The picture texture in C is the alpha channel in this case.  Notice that the diffuse color from component A is applied to the black areas, and component B is applied to the white areas.  Keep in mind that since the alpha channel  in the above image is a picture texture, the blending mode is reversed.

Hmmm, based on this little bit of info, what would happen if the alpha were gray?  You guessed it...it'd blend.  In other words, you could apply two textures at once.

Yellow and Red make Orange!  In effect, 2 textures at once!   This does have limits though, but it's definitely worth some experimenting.

This is not meant to be an all inclusive instruction on every possible way to have made the final image or produce the desired results.  Bryce offers zillions of wonderful ways to replicate, multireplicate, reposition, etc.  in its powerful interface. Experiment!
