Make the handle

When making this knife, I wanted to make the handle semi-transparent.  This decision will make metal of the interior handle visible.  So I had to make one.  It was really easy.  Just create an elongated cylinder and place it at the base of your blade.   Apply the metal material.
For the blade guard,   just create a cube and two flattened cylinders and place them at the base of the blade.

Notice the cylinders are red and the cube is green.

Now it's time to make the actual handle.   So just create a torus and make it fatter by clicking the "E" and dragging the radius control.
Elongate it to the size you want it to be and place it over the handle base.

Apply a material to the handle.

Ok, this thing is taking shape
I wanted to put an interesting touch at the tip of the knife.  I used a poser skull, however you may want to put something else.   A sphere or some other object would look nice too.

Decorate the handle

We could leave the knife alone now if we wanted.  However, I like detail and you should learn to expect it from your images.  So lets add some more detail to the handle.
Many knives have carved areas for the fingers in the handle.  So we will carve some in our handle.  Be sure your handle's attributes are set to positive.  Now create 3 more torus, make them negative and position them over your handle so that they touch one side of your handle.
Now group your 4 handle torus and notice how it carve out nice finger grips in it.

Be sure all of your torus have the same material.

Don't abuse the same material

If you make several knives, if you use the same material over and over for the handles, the image will become quite boring.  So don't be afraid to get into the Material Lab's DTE and play with the texture.
If you are using the material I used, by changing these colors, you can change your handle colors.

For instance change them to different shade of red.

Keep in mind that once you change the color you will want to change the specularity of the material too.

Site Note:

Have fun making your own knives.

This is not meant to be an all inclusive instruction on every possible way to have made the final image or produce the desired results.  Bryce offers zillions of wonderful ways to replicate, multireplicate, reposition, etc.  in its powerful interface. Experiment!
