Create the cuff

Begin by creating a standard tube with boolean functions and apply a metal material to it.
You will now want to clip off a portion of the rounded cuff to allow for an area to bend along hinges. So create a cube along the the side of your tube and make it negative.
After you group it, you will have cut off the side of the cuff.

This is a rather bland cuff side.  I want to make it more sadistic looking.  So let's work on that.

  • Go to top view
  • Zoom in
  • Create a cone and position it so that it aligns with the side of the cuff.
  • Select its attributes and make the origin handle visible.
  • Drag the origin to the center of the tube.

When you are in one of the orthagonal views, when you drag an object , it only moves in two planes.  This is an excellent way to place an object.
Now begin duplicating your cone and rotating the duplicate to make a nice wall of teeth inside the cuff.  Be sure to keep the cones outside of your boolean cube.

Notice that when you rotate the duplicate around the new origin that it places itself nicely along the edge of the cuff.

You now have an evil looking beginning for the cuff.

Create a hinge

Creating a hinge is easy.  Just create some cylinders and two spheres and align them as indicated to the right.
This makes a nice looking hinge for your cuff.
  • Now position this hinge at the side of your cuff.
  • Duplicate it and position the duplicate at the other side of your cuff.

Don't forget to use the orthagonal views for quicker placement.  (top, left, right, bottom, front, back)

Now the cuff is beginning to take shape.
